I started another leg of my Long Vacation last week, with a close friend of mine who was already touring. It’s quite pleasant to be able to pencil down in my schedule that I spent a week in Bangkok, this August!
I had forgotten what it felt like to travel for leisure, since at this point in my life, it had been difficult to separate my time clearly between work and play.
This trip, however, was one of leisure.
While I am not yet acquainted with the idea of regular massages (these are costly in Singapore), it was definitely a treat to visit with a friend who had cultivated the worthy habit of getting massages. The drawback is that pockets of time disappear and you find yourself nodding off rudely under the hands of the masseuse. (;
We were brought to the flower market, which was a fascinating place.
Every day, trucks and trucks of fresh flowers are brought to this market from all over Thailand. The market starts from 11PM to wee hours of the next morning. It supplies Bangkok’s florists with flowers, so the buying is done while everyone else is sleeping.
As a large part of Thailand’s population is Buddhist, flowers are always in demand – you can see them everywhere: in homes, stores, offices and even vehicles.
I was very happy to have visited the market – I have been harbouring a love for florals not just on dresses, but the real ones as well (:
It seems I have a penchant for local markets, much more than shopping malls!
